Kerala: Angry Elephant wreaks havoc, throws a man with trunk, leaves 20 injured

Kerala, January 8, 2025: An elephant created a ruckus during the BP Angadi Nercha in Tirur, Malappuram, Kerala. Around 20 people were injured during this. Two people are reported to have been seriously injured during the incident. The incident took place at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 8.
The four-day annual Nercha festival is celebrated at the Yahoo Thangal temple in BP Angadi. The accident occurred on the last day of the festival.
An elephant named Pakoth Srikuttan, standing among five decorated elephants, got agitated on seeing the crowd and grabbed a person and threw him in the air with his trunk. The seriously injured person has been admitted to AIIMS hospital in Kotkakal.
As per reports, elephants were standing in the middle of the crowd gathered to watch the closing ceremony of Nercha. Soon after the procession arrived from Pathanur, the elephant sitting in the middle got angry and attacked the people standing in front.
After the elephant got angry, people started running here and there, which led to a stampede-like situation. Many people were injured as they fell while running.
