DC visits ‘Mamta Diwas Camp’, reviews maternal, child healthcare services
Ferozepur, January 8, 2025: During Mamta Diwas, health institutions vaccinate pregnant mothers and children to protect them from diseases. The government and health department of Punjab are working to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and children.
In this context, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma visited the Mamta Diwas camp organized by the Health Department at the Ayushman Arogya Kendra, Mallawala Qadeem. The visit included a detailed review of immunization drives and healthcare services provided to children and pregnant women. She interacted with patients to understand their experiences and discussed the quality of services being offered at the health centre.
Mamta Diwas is a joint initiative by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and the Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD) to strengthen the health services for mothers and children. It is celebrated once a month at AWCs. The objectives of Mamta Diwas are to provide essential health and nutrition services, ensure early registration and identification of high-risk children and pregnant women, and provide a platform for interaction between service providers and the community.

During her visit, the DC encouraged pregnant women to opt for institutional deliveries at government hospitals. She also advised high-risk expectant mothers to maintain regular contact with doctors and follow medical guidance to improve their health. This included increasing haemoglobin levels through a nutritious diet and iron-folic acid supplements.
Parents attending the camp for their children’s vaccinations were reminded of the importance of timely immunization. “Every parent must ensure that no child is left out of the immunization program,” emphasized Sharma.
The Mamta Diwas camp provided a range of services, including health check-ups for pregnant women, institutional delivery promotion, newborn vaccinations, monitoring of children’s weight and height, and guidance on home-based childcare. Non-communicable disease screenings for diabetes and hypertension were also conducted. Furthermore, health staff educated attendees about various government health schemes and services to maximize benefits for economically weaker sections.
DC instructed health officials to ensure timely registration and check-ups for all pregnant women to safeguard both maternal and child health.
