An entrepreneurial farmer from Moga district achieves success with the right perspective, hard work, and innovation
Products under the "Golden Aura" brand of jaggery are receiving an overwhelming response in the market
Other Farmers should also be inspired to innovate and work hard, says the Deputy Commissioner
Moga, January 9, 2025 – Rajdeep Singh, a 31-year-old entrepreneurial farmer from Bhinder Kalan village in Moga district, has set new benchmarks of success with the right approach, diligence, and innovation. By moving beyond traditional farming to process jaggery, he has successfully established his unique identity. While many of his peers dreamed of moving abroad, Rajdeep chose to stay in his village and envisioned a future in agriculture by understanding the growing demand for high-quality, chemical-free food.
In 2023, with the guidance of scientists from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Krishi Vigiyan Kendra (KVK), Rajdeep began producing jaggery and sugar, a venture that has flourished.
Rajdeep Singh consulted experts at KVK, Moga, and PAU, Ludhiana, to gain knowledge about machinery, utensils, and production methods. With an initial investment of ₹6 lakhs, he launched his jaggery business at Kokri Phula Singh Wala, located on the Moga-Ludhiana highway. Using natural methods, such as clarifying cane juice with okra water, he produces high-quality jaggery. Rajdeep offers a variety of products, including jaggery cubes, jaggery with dry fruits, sugar, and jaggery-coated gram, catering to customer preferences.
Thanks to the strategic location of his production unit and the inviting aroma of jaggery wafting along the highway, Rajdeep experienced success in his first year itself. The quality of the jaggery is determined by testing the juice's pH and TSS levels, which are crucial for its storage and overall quality. His unit, registered under the MSME scheme of the Government of India, is named “Golden Aura.”
Additionally, Rajdeep is involved in bakery production. Ramanadeep Kaur and Amandeep Singh Brar of KVK, Moga, shared that Rajdeep has replaced sugar with jaggery in bakery items, doubling his profits from stored jaggery. His biscuits, made with wheat flour, desi ghee, milk, and jaggery, have gained popularity. To ensure sustainability, Rajdeep obtained necessary certifications from FSSAI and MSME, adhering to food safety norms.
Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal praised Rajdeep Singh's determination and encouraged other farmers to explore innovative ventures. He stated that Rajdeep's story demonstrates how success can be achieved through the right perspective, hard work, and innovation. His achievements have inspired many young farmers to explore value-added products and entrepreneurship in agriculture.
