Punjab’s Pride: Fazilka farmer Karnail Singh to receive ‘Innovative Farmer Award’ from IARI
Fazilka, 23 February, 2025: Progressive farmer Karnail Singh from village Ghatia Wali Bodla, district Fazilka, has been selected to receive the prestigious "Innovative Farmer Award" by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa. The award will be presented to him during the Kisan Mela (Farmers’ Fair) in New Delhi on February 24, 2025. Notably, Karnail Singh is the only farmer from Punjab to be honored with this prestigious award, following a recommendation by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Fazilka-Abohar.
Karnail Singh is known for his innovative approach, advancements in agricultural techniques, and commitment to eco-friendly farming practices. In addition to traditional farming, he has made significant contributions to fish farming and vegetable production. His most notable achievement is in the field of stubble management, where he has successfully implemented a method of stubble disposal without burning, thus helping to mitigate pollution.
Actively involved in farmer awareness programs, Karnail Singh has educated over 700 farmers on modern agricultural techniques. Additionally, he has promoted canola mustard farming, introduced oil extraction, and successfully established branding and marketing strategies for its sale.
Beyond being a successful farmer, Karnail Singh is a motivator and leader in the agricultural community. He played a key role in establishing the "KVK CIPHET Farmers’ Club," where he educates farmers about new agricultural technologies, organic farming, water conservation, and the use of high-yield seeds. Under his guidance, numerous farmers have adopted advanced techniques, leading to increased agricultural productivity and income.
Dr. Arvind Ahlawat, Head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Fazilka, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Karnail Singh on being selected for the Innovative Farmer Award. He stated that this honor is a matter of pride for all farmers in Punjab and will inspire others to adopt modern agricultural practices.
The prestigious award will be conferred upon Karnail Singh on February 24, 2025, at the IARI Pusa Kisan Mela in New Delhi. The fair, scheduled from February 22 to 24, will bring together progressive farmers, agricultural scientists, and experts from across the country. A total of 34 farmers will be honored at this event, with Karnail Singh being the sole recipient from Punjab.
Karnail Singh’s remarkable achievement has instilled a sense of pride and enthusiasm among farmers in Fazilka district and Punjab. His innovations and motivational efforts are expected to drive revolutionary changes in the agricultural sector in the coming years.
