Chandigarh, February 25, 2025 – On the final day of the ongoing special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema strongly condemned the BJP-led central government for allegedly disrespecting freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Cheema demanded a unanimous resolution against the BJP following the removal of photos of Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar from Delhi government offices.
Cheema emphasized that Bhagat Singh and Ambedkar are national icons who played pivotal roles in India's freedom struggle and the framing of the Constitution.
He stated, "The removal of their photos is an insult to their legacy and the values they stood for. The Punjab Vidhan Sabha must pass a resolution condemning this act and reaffirming our commitment to honor their contributions."
Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Partap Bajwa extended his support to Cheema's demand, calling it a necessary step to uphold the dignity of these revered figures.
However, Bajwa also urged the assembly to pass another resolution seeking the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, for former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
