Haryana Set to Promote 27 HCS Officers to IAS Amidst Controversy
Chandigarh, Feb 26, 2025: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has approved the promotion of 27 Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). These officers, from the 2002, 2003, and 2004 batches, have awaited elevation due to pending legal issues. The promotions will proceed following clearance from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
The delay in promotions stemmed from a chargesheet filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) concerning alleged irregularities in the 2001 HCS (Executive Branch) and Allied Services Examination. The ACB's investigation led to charges against several officials, including nine serving HCS officers.
Despite the controversy, the state government, after obtaining legal opinions, has decided to move forward with the promotions. The matter has been referred to the UPSC for final approval.
This development has sparked debate, with some stakeholders expressing concerns over promoting officers implicated in the ACB's chargesheet. The UPSC's decision will be pivotal in determining the future of these promotions.
