HC Advocate writes to Haryana SEC over non-distribution of photo voter slips in Ambala MC polls

Ambala (Haryana), March 1, 2025: With just 24 hours left for polling in the Municipal Corporation (MC) Mayor by-election in Ambala, concerns have been raised over the non-distribution of Photo Voter Slips to over 1.93 lakh eligible electors. Advocate Hemant Kumar, a resident of Haryana and a voter in the upcoming election, has formally written to the State Election Commissioner, Haryana, urging immediate action.
In his memorandum (Memo No. HK-GA / Spl. / Har. Mun. Elec.-2025 / Amb. M.C.- Mayor ByElec./Photo Voter Slips), Advocate Hemant Kumar highlighted the critical delay, emphasizing that neither he nor his family members—nor any other eligible voter—have received their voter slips from the Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The election is set to take place on March 2, 2025.
He shared that according to the State Election Commission’s press note issued on February 4, 2025, the total electoral strength in Ambala MC stands at 1,93,260, comprising 1,00,418 male electors, 92,823 female electors, and 19 others. The election will be conducted across 191 polling booths.
Expressing concern over the impact of the non-distribution of voter slips, Advocate Kumar stated that voters might be compelled to visit political party booths to obtain necessary electoral details, rather than heading directly to their designated polling stations. This situation, he noted, is avoidable and could have been prevented with timely distribution by the BLOs.
He further pointed out that in the past, during both the 18th Lok Sabha General Election (April-May 2024) and the Haryana Assembly General Election (September-October 2024), BLOs had efficiently distributed voter slips in compliance with Election Commission of India guidelines. The current lapse, he argued, calls for urgent intervention.
In his appeal, Advocate Kumar urged the State Election Commission, Haryana, to issue immediate instructions for the distribution of voter slips to ensure a smooth and fair election process.
