Chandigarh, March 4, 2025 – Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has demanded the immediate release of farmer leaders arrested in pre-dawn raids at the direction of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Majithia also called for an apology from the CM for allegedly threatening and mistreating farmer representatives during an official meeting.
Majithia condemned the Punjab government’s heavy-handed approach, stating that farmers were invited for talks only to be intimidated when they questioned the government on its unfulfilled promises.
He alleged that Mann threatened farmers with dire consequences and later ordered raids and arrests to disrupt their planned March 5 protest.
The SAD leader criticized Mann’s leadership, citing previous controversies, including his behavior toward bureaucrats and past allegations of misconduct. He reminded the CM of his electoral promises, such as implementing the Swaminathan Report, ensuring MSP for all crops, and doubling farm income, accusing him of failing on all fronts.
Majithia asserted that farmers have a democratic right to question the government and called Mann’s behavior erratic and unbecoming of a chief minister.
Taking a dig at AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, he suggested that Mann, instead of Kejriwal, should attend a Vipassana meditation session to regain stability.
