Farmers protest against Gurdaspur lathi charge, announce indefinite sit-in at DC Office from March 17
Memorandum submitted to DIG Border Range
Large gatherings of youth to organize protests in border districts on March 23
Ferozepur/Amritsar, March 11: The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Punjab strongly condemned the police lathi charge on farmers in Gurdaspur and staged a protest by burning an effigy in Amritsar. The demonstration, led by state leader Sarwan Singh Pandher and district president Ranjit Singh Kaler, was in response to the forceful land acquisition under the Bharatmala Project without compensation in villages Bharth and Nangal Jhor.
The leaders accused the government of succumbing to political pressure and using force to seize farmers' lands without adequate compensation. They termed this act as highly condemnable and announced an indefinite sit-in outside the Gurdaspur Deputy Commissioner's office starting March 17.
He said, a joint conference of farmer organizations and intellectuals will be held at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh, on March 17 to counter the government's misinformation regarding MSP and other farmer-related issues. On March 23, to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, a large gathering of youth will be organized at various protest sites along the borders.
The committee emphasized that they would not allow the forcible acquisition of land without proper compensation. They also demanded that the government compensate farmers for the deliberate damage caused to their wheat crops. A memorandum outlining these demands has been submitted to the DIG Border Range.
