Lakhewali to get expanded grain market, Dr. Baljit Kaur paves way
Farmers from nearby village to benefit from improved trade facilities

Chandigarh, March 19, 2025: Persistent efforts by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister, and Malout MLA Dr. Baljit Kaur have paved the way for the expansion of the grain market in Lakhewali, fulfilling a long-standing demand of local farmers.
The expansion will provide better infrastructure for farmers, commission agents, and agricultural traders, making crop sales more efficient.
To support this initiative, the Gram Panchayat of Lakhewali has donated 5 kanals and 8 marlas of Shamlat land to the Punjab Mandi Board, enabling the market's frontage expansion.
Following official approvals, the district administration has cleared the land transfer under Rule 13(C) of the Punjab Village Common Lands (Regulation) First Amendment Rules, 2010.Deputy Commissioner of Sri Muktsar Sahib, Abhijeet Kaplish, IAS, granted final approval for the inclusion of this land in the market’s expansion.
Dr. Baljit Kaur expressed gratitude to the villagers, the Gram Panchayat, and the Punjab Mandi Board, stating that this decision would significantly boost the agricultural economy in the region.
