Language Dept celebrates World Theatre Day: 'Bambiha Bole' play spotlight on social issues

Ferozepur, March 27, 2025: A special event to commemorate World Theatre Day at Baba Kundan Singh College, Muhar, under the directives of the Punjab government and the guidance of the Director of the Language Department, Punjab and the event was led by Dr. Jagdeep Singh Sandhu.

As part of the celebrations, Natraj Rangmanch from Kotkapura staged the play "Bambiha Bole," written by Shaminder Sunny and directed by Rang Harjinder. The play powerfully highlighted the growing influence of drugs in Punjab and the deterioration of Punjabi music, delivering a strong social message to the youth. Prominent roles were played by Rang Harjinder, Sukhwinder Bittu, Mintu Malwai, John Masih, and Anhad Gopi.
Expressing gratitude to the attendees, Dr. Surjeet Singh Sidhu, Chairman of Baba Kundan Singh College, stated that it was an honour for the college to be chosen as the venue for the district’s World Theatre Day celebrations. Reflecting on his cinematic journey, he emphasized that art is a medium that fosters love, harmony, and cultural unity.
District Language Officer Dr. Jagdeep Singh Sandhu extended greetings on World Theatre Day and provided insights into its history. He stated that the day has been celebrated globally since 1962 to promote cultural harmony through theatre. This year, the international celebrations are being held in Brazil from March 27 to March 30. Each year, a prominent figure from the theatre world delivers a global message, and this year’s theme is "Cultural Peace Through Theatre." The official message has been given by renowned Greek director and writer Theodoros Terzopoulos.
The event also featured an energetic musical performance by folk singer Anhad Gopi, who motivated the youth to stand against social evils through his songs.
Distinguished guests included Sardar Sukh Gill, President of Kisan Union Punjab, Tota Singh Wala, Prof. Arvinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Prof. Maninder Pal Singh Sidhu, Prof. Ravinderjeet Kaur, Prof. Sharanjeet Kaur, Prof. Parvinder Kaur, Prof. Seema Grover, Prof. Sukhpal Singh, Prof. Navneet Sekhon, S. Lavjit Singh Gill, Prof. Rakesh Bhalla, Senior Assistant Raman Kumar, and numerous students.
As part of the celebrations, the Language Department, also organized a grand book exhibition at the District Administrative Complex (DAC) under the leadership of Chetan Kumar. The exhibition saw active participation from officials, employees, and the general public.
