Chandigarh, March 29, 2025 – A Special CBI Court in Chandigarh today acquitted former Punjab & Haryana High Court judge, Justice Nirmal Yadav, in a 15-year-old bribery case related to the delivery of ₹15 lakh cash to a sitting judge’s residence in 2008. Special CBI Judge Alka Malik pronounced the verdict.
The case dates back to August 2008, when a peon of then-sitting Justice Nirmaljit Kaur reported that a bag containing ₹15 lakh cash was mistakenly delivered to her court residence. Upon realizing the suspicious nature of the delivery, Justice Kaur immediately reported the incident, leading to the arrest of the courier.
The investigation later implicated Justice Nirmal Yadav, alleging that the cash was intended for her.
The CBI filed a chargesheet against Justice Yadav in 2010 under corruption and conspiracy charges, leading to a prolonged legal battle. However, after years of proceedings, the court today acquitted her of all charges, citing insufficient evidence to establish criminal intent or direct involvement.
