Director Sudan conducts online review meeting to strengthen heat wave preparedness ahead of summer
Ferozepur, April 9, 2025: In anticipation of the upcoming heat wave season, Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS, Director (DM)-cum-Special Secretary, Revenue, chaired an online review meeting with Deputy Commissioners and officials from various districts. The video conference was attended by SDM Ferozepur, Divya P., along with officials from other departments. The meeting focused on assessing preparedness measures and strategies to mitigate risks associated with extreme heat conditions.
Sudan directed authorities to issue advisories regarding heat wave precautions. He emphasized that high temperatures and hot winds can have severe health impacts, sometimes proving fatal. He explained that a heat wave is declared when the temperature in a plain region reaches or exceeds 40°C.
Highlighting the dangers of extreme heat, he noted that hot winds not only increase thirst but also severely affect the skin and eyes. The body's natural cooling mechanism through sweating can lead to dehydration, and if the heat persists beyond a certain limit, it can result in heatstroke. He urged people to take heat waves seriously, especially as temperatures have already risen significantly in April, raising concerns for vulnerable groups.
SDM Ferozepur shared details of the measures taken by the district administration and the District Disaster Management Authority to combat heat waves. The Health Department is also playing a crucial role by issuing regular advisories and conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public on preventive measures.
The meeting was attended by Executive Officer Municipal Council, Poonam Bhatnagar, District Agriculture Officer, Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, and other officials from various departments.
