Chandigarh, April 11, 2025: In a significant move aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will engage in direct dialogue with farmers during the first-of-its-kind ‘Sarkar-Kisan Milni’ scheduled to be held at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana on April 12.
The event will focus on preserving Punjab’s depleting groundwater by encouraging farmers to adopt less water-intensive paddy varieties and improved cultivation techniques. Over 1,100 farmers are expected to attend the gathering.
During the Milni, farmers will be introduced to high-yielding, low water-consuming paddy varieties approved by PAU and innovative transplanting methods. The state government also plans to advance the paddy sowing season to June 1 to avoid moisture-related issues during procurement in October.
To implement this systematically, Punjab has been divided into cultivation zones, and a phased sowing schedule will be announced soon.Agriculture experts will also be present to provide guidance and resolve queries.
