Chandigarh: Govt Model Senior Secondary School, 16 becomes North India's first fully air-conditioned Govt school
Thanks to Alumnus Arvind Jain’s Generosity

Chandigarh, April 11, 2025: Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16, Chandigarh, has become North India’s first and India’s second fully air-conditioned government school, following a landmark donation by alumnus Arvind Jain during the golden jubilee reunion of the 1975 (Section A) batch.
A renowned social worker and active member of several organizations, Arvind Jain donated 1.5-ton Hitachi inverter air conditioners for all 35 classrooms of the school.The initiative was officially inaugurated by Prerna Puri (IAS), Secretary of Education and Engineering, marking a milestone in the school’s legacy of excellence.
Speaking at the reunion, Jain said the gathering was a heartfelt opportunity to give back to the institution that shaped their lives.The event also honored 14 former teachers and included a vibrant cultural performance by current students.
In a heartwarming gesture, gift hampers were distributed to all 2,726 students and tokens of appreciation were presented to the school’s support staff, including cleaners, gardeners, and peons.
The school’s Principal Bhavneet Kaur and Coordinator Sheetal praised the gesture, calling it a proud moment in the school’s history and a shining example of alumni gratitude.
