Sunil Jakhar urges Centre, State to issue public guidelines amid India-Pakistan tensions
Chandigarh (Punjab), May 9, 2025 (ANI) — Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Sunil Jakhar on Friday called on the Union Home Ministry and state authorities to issue clear and consistent guidelines to the public amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the launch of Operation Sindoor.
Jakhar emphasized the urgent need to eliminate confusion and public anxiety as both nations engage in military retaliation.
"I strongly urge both the Ministry of Home Affairs and state authorities to immediately issue clear, consistent guidelines for the people. With blackouts in some areas, sirens in others, and no communication in many places, public confusion and anxieties are growing. The situation demands clarity," Jakhar posted on X.
He further highlighted that the absence of timely communication is fueling uncertainty, stressing that people must be informed about proper action plans and safety measures without delay.
Meanwhile, defence sources confirmed that every missile launched by Pakistan had been intercepted or neutralized, with none reaching its intended target. Pakistan had attempted to strike Indian military installations across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, but all attacks were successfully foiled.
The escalation comes after India destroyed nine terrorist camps in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack.
Tensions peaked on Thursday as Jammu witnessed a complete blackout following sirens and reports of explosions near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
In a related development, the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir late on May 8.
The BSF confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating, “At around 2300 hours on May 8, 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K.”
Additionally, defense sources reported that the Indian Army shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir amid heavy artillery exchanges along the border.
