Villagers unite against drugs as MLA Dahiya leads awareness drive in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, June 2, 2025: To raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, Ferozepur Rural MLA Rajnish Kumar Dahiya visited several villages in his constituency — including Chak Ghubayi (Tara Wali), Chak Ghubayi (Tangan), Basti Shaheed Jarnail Singh, Pratap Nagar, Nava Purba, and Khooh Chah Parsiyan — in line with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The initiative, part of the “War Against Drugs” campaign, is being carried out under the banner of the “Nasha Mukti Yatra” (Drug-Free Journey).
Addressing the villagers, MLA Dahiya emphasized that the Punjab government has already dealt a significant blow to drug traffickers in recent months. He stated that the campaign would be turned into a people’s movement, reaching every village and ward. He urged residents to pledge that they will neither use nor sell drugs and that they will encourage addicts to seek treatment.
Dahiya further noted that public cooperation is essential for the success of this initiative and urged villagers to share information about drug peddlers anonymously. He added that the state has strengthened facilities for treatment and rehabilitation centers across Punjab for those seeking to quit drugs.
Highlighting the mission’s broader purpose, Dahiya said, “Under the leadership of Bhagwant Singh Mann, the aim of the Nasha Mukti Yatra is not only to create awareness but also to foster a positive environment within society.” He administered an anti-drug pledge to the villagers and appealed to them to report any drug-related activities to the nearest police station.
He also mentioned that the campaign has been a collective effort involving panchayats, village defense committees, police, and district administration. The aim is to bring about social change through public participation, not just legal measures.
The event was attended by “Nasha Mukti Morcha” coordinator Harman Sidhu, administrative officials, Aam Aadmi Party office-bearers and workers, sarpanches, panches, and members of village defense committees, along with a large number of villagers.
