Chandigarh, June 3, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann stirred a political storm on Monday with a pointed jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of turning a revered cultural symbol into a political spectacle.
Reacting to the BJP’s nationwide campaign centered on ‘Operation Sindoor’—a tribute to the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack—Mann criticized the use of ‘sindoor’ (vermilion) in the party’s outreach efforts, questioning its symbolic intent.
“BJP is asking for votes in the name of Operation Sindoor. They’ve turned sindoor into a joke. They’re reportedly sending it to every household. What’s next—should people apply sindoor in Modi’s name? Is this some kind of ‘one nation, one husband’ scheme?” Mann said while addressing reporters in Ludhiana, ahead of a crucial bypoll.
The Chief Minister’s comment quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions from across the political spectrum.
While some opposition voices echoed Mann’s concerns about the politicization of cultural sentiments, BJP supporters slammed the remarks as disrespectful and inflammatory.
