Sudden storm hits Fazilka, authorities issue advisory urging residents to stay indoors

Fazilka (Punjab), June 3, 2025 – The weather took a sudden and dramatic turn in Punjab’s Fazilka district on Tuesday evening, prompting the district administration to issue an urgent advisory, urging residents to remain indoors until further notice.
Around 4:30 PM, dark clouds gathered rapidly over the region, followed by strong gusts of wind and heavy rainfall. The abrupt storm caused chaos in marketplaces, on roads, and in open areas, significantly disrupting normal life.
Shops Damaged, Public Scrambles for Shelter
Eyewitnesses reported that the fierce winds tore off tin roofs from several shops in busy bazaars.
Many shopkeepers were seen hurriedly packing up their goods as the storm intensified.
Reports also surfaced of trees being uprooted and damage to power lines, although no major injuries or casualties have been reported so far.
IMD Warning: More Storms Expected
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for continued strong winds, thunder, and rain over the next few hours in Fazilka and surrounding areas.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid open spaces until the weather stabilizes.
Deputy Commissioner Appeals for Caution
In response to the rapidly deteriorating conditions, the Fazilka district administration released an official advisory, asking citizens to remain inside their homes, especially children and the elderly.
The advisory emphasized maintaining distance from trees, electricity poles, and loose electrical wires.
Safety Guidelines Issued for the Public
Authorities have urged residents to take the following precautions:
- Avoid standing under trees
- Stay away from exposed electrical wires
- Be cautious around rooftops and weak structures
- Check power status before charging mobile phones
Officials continue to monitor the situation and have assured that emergency services are on standby in case of further developments.
