Rajpura (Patiala), June 5, 2025: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, during his visit to Punjab under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, made a strong appeal to agricultural scientists, urging them to step out of laboratories and interact directly with farmers in the fields to understand their real problems.
Addressing a Kisan Chaupal in Rajpura, Chouhan said, “Sitting in Delhi and updating data won't help. If we truly want to solve farmers' problems, our scientists must visit farms, talk to cultivators, and learn firsthand about their challenges.”

Highlighting water scarcity issues and the need for crop diversification, he noted, “Water availability is becoming unpredictable and limited. That’s why we are encouraging farmers to adopt five alternative crops like cotton, maize, and chilli. But no one can suggest real solutions without engaging directly with the farmers.”
He also emphasized the importance of joint efforts between the Centre and state governments. “The Punjab government has shown willingness to support crop diversification. If water resources are depleting, we must explore viable alternatives to paddy cultivation.
