Govt’s New Energy-Saving Move: AC Temperatures to Be Fixed Between 20°C–28°C
New Delhi, June 11, 2025:
In a significant step toward promoting energy efficiency, the Union Government is set to introduce a standardized temperature range for air conditioning systems across the country. The temperature settings will be fixed between 20°C and 28°C, meaning air conditioners will no longer be allowed to cool below 20°C or heat above 28°C.
Announcing the decision, a Union Minister said, “Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20°C to 28°C. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings.”
The move comes in the backdrop of the persistent heatwave gripping several regions of the country and is aimed at ensuring energy conservation, reducing power consumption, and promoting environmental sustainability.
Authorities are expected to issue detailed guidelines soon, including the implementation roadmap and compliance protocols. The measure is part of the broader national push to improve energy efficiency and manage peak load demand during extreme weather conditions.
