Five Members of a Family Feared Dead in Ahmedabad Air India Plane Crash: Report

Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025: A devastating Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad has claimed the lives of over 200 people, with reports indicating that a family of five, who had traveled from London to Ahmedabad to celebrate Eid ul-Adha, is among the victims. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating as Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff at 1:38 PM IST on Thursday, plunging into a residential area in Meghani Nagar, including a doctors' hostel at BJ Medical College. The crash, which involved 242 passengers and crew, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals, is one of India’s deadliest aviation disasters since 1996.

Official sources, including Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik, reported 204 bodies recovered and 41 injured persons hospitalized, with one confirmed survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian in seat 11A. The Tata Group, which owns Air India, announced ₹1 crore compensation for each victim’s family.
