New Delhi, June 22, 2025: The dispute between Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Harmeet Singh Kalka and former president Paramjit Singh Sarna escalated on Saturday following the announcement of DSGMC’s biennial elections, scheduled for June 25.
Addressing a press conference at Gurdwara Rakabganj Sahib, Kalka stated that elections for the posts of President, General Secretary, and Executive Committee members would be held as per the directions of the Director of Gurdwara Elections and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
He assured the community that the process would be democratic, peaceful, and transparent.
“The most junior member of the house will propose the names of office-bearers, who will then be elected with the consensus of the assembly,” Kalka explained. He also warned that any attempt to disrupt the election process would be dealt with strictly.
In a sharp attack on his rivals, Kalka targeted former presidents Paramjit Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK, accusing them of hypocrisy.
“These leaders were earlier protesting delays in elections, but now that the date has been announced, they are running to court to stop the process. The Sangat has seen through their double standards,” Kalka said.
He also criticized the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for allegedly selling properties in Tarn Taran at throwaway prices and held SGPC president responsible for the mismanagement. Kalka vowed to protect Gurdwara property and interests of the Sangat.
On the other hand, SAD (Badal) leader Paramjit Singh Sarna and Manjit Singh GK have raised objections to the election process. Manjit Singh GK claimed that the elections should have been held two years ago and are now being conducted in violation of the DSGMC Act. Sarna alleged that government interference in DSGMC affairs has increased under the current regime.
Responding to the allegations, Kalka refuted the claims, saying, “There is no government interference today. That was during the time of the Congress government. Sarna is trying to mislead the community as he no longer has public support.”
Kalka further alleged that Sarna’s group once defied the Akal Takht's directions under Congress influence and misused DSGMC for political gain.
As the date of the election nears, tensions continue to rise, with both camps accusing each other of manipulating the DSGMC for political benefit. The upcoming election is expected to be a decisive moment in the power dynamics of Delhi’s Sikh leadership.
