Chandigarh, June 30, 2025:
Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu has welcomed the launch of direct flight operations between Adampur (Jalandhar) and Mumbai by IndiGo Airlines recently.
Hailing the Union Government’s decision, MP Satnam Sandhu said, “Mumbai is the financial capital of India and connecting Punjab with Mumbai through flight would open new avenues. Providing good connectivity is the basis of encouraging Industry to invest in the region. It will also add new tourism avenues for the state of Punjab. Punjabi film and music industry would also be benefitted from this air connectivity which open more employment avenues for the Punjabi Youth.
Notably, India’s largest airline operator, IndiGo has announced that it is starting the direct flight service between Adampur in Punjab and Mumbai from 2 July, 2025.
Earlier, keeping in view the sentiments of the Sikh community, long awaited flight operations were resumed from the Adampur airport, which was inaugurated in 2018, to Nanded after a gap of four years in March 2024. This has provided Sikh pilgrims, keen on visiting Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib a convenient option for travelling to the holy Sikh shrine.
Sandhu added, “The Union Government under the leadership of PM Modi has taken unparalleled steps to improve the connectivity to and from Punjab. During the last 5 years, 4 airports in Adampur, Bathinda, Ludhiana and Pathankot have been made operationalized in Punjab under UDAN scheme with an expenditure of over Rs 143 Crore”.
It is pertinent to mention here that MP Sandhu had raised the matter of improving air connectivity from Punjab during the parliament session last year.
The UDAN scheme has brought several benefits to Punjab. It has enhanced regional connectivity by promoting affordable air travel, making it easier for people in Punjab to access different parts of the country. This has facilitated tourism, boosted economic activities and improved overall accessibility for the residents of the state. Additionally, UDAN has contributed to the development of smaller airports in Punjab, creating employment opportunities and stimulating local economy.
