Ferozepur, July 14, 2025: The Cantonment Shopkeepers’ Union of Ferozepur has announced a boycott of online retail giants Amazon and Flipkart. This key decision was taken during a special meeting held by the union, where members unanimously resolved to open a front against these e-commerce platforms.
Union leaders alleged that despite paying rent and taxes, local shopkeepers are suffering losses as customers are increasingly shifting to online shopping. As a result, many shops are witnessing a steep decline in footfall. The union declared that no member will now order stock from these platforms, nor will they encourage customers to do so.
Addressing the gathering, union leaders Anuj Mittal and Vipin Garg explained that the move aims to protect local businesses. They stressed that continuous losses due to online sales are forcing small traders to shut down their shops. They also criticised the platforms for delivering products even in areas where shopkeepers are already offering better services.
The union further decided to include four traders – Deepak Mahajan, Vishal Garg, Kamal Sethi, and Sanjeev Aroda – in its executive committee to strengthen the organisation's operations. A resolution was also passed to address every small issue through such meetings to protect the interests of the trader community.
The union leaders made it clear that if the administration fails to resolve traders’ grievances, a protest campaign will be launched. They also warned that if harassment of shopkeepers continues under the pretext of rules and regulations, the traders will unite for bigger protests.
