Breaking: Bikram Majithia sent to judicial custody till August 2

Chandigarh, July 19, 2025: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, arrested in a disproportionate assets case, has once again been sent to judicial custody by the Mohali court. During a court hearing on Saturday, his custody was extended until August 2, 2025.
Majithia was brought to the special court in Mohali amid tight security, with heavy police deployment around the court complex. The latest court appearance followed the expiry of his previous 14-day judicial custody.
According to sources, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau presented new documents and evidence in court, emphasizing the need for further interrogation.The agency is now expected to intensify its investigation and may soon move toward filing a charge sheet against the former minister.
- June 25: Vigilance Bureau registered a disproportionate assets case against Majithia. Raids conducted in Amritsar and Chandigarh led to the recovery of documents showing alleged irregularities worth ₹540 crore. Majithia was arrested the same day. Items seized included 29 mobile phones, 5 laptops, 3 iPads, 2 desktops, 8 diaries, and other documents.
- June 26: Majithia was produced in Mohali court, and the Vigilance Bureau was granted 7-day custody.
- June 27: The name of former DGP Siddharth Chatterjee surfaced in connection with the case, linking it to an earlier NDPS Act investigation.
- June 28: Former ED Deputy Director Niranjan Singh gave a statement, claiming that accused Jagdish Bhola and others had named Majithia in a 2013 drug-related money laundering case.
- July 2: Majithia’s remand was extended by 4 more days before being sent to judicial custody.
With judicial custody now extended till August 2, the Vigilance Bureau has more time to build its case. If sufficient evidence is gathered, a formal charge sheet could be filed in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Majithia’s legal team is expected to move a bail petition soon.
