Legendary Marathon Runner Fauja Singh cremated with state honors; CM Mann, dignitaries pay last respects

Beas (Punjab), July 20, 2025: The world today bid a tearful farewell to Fauja Singh, the oldest marathon runner in history, as he was laid to rest with full dignity and honor.
His mortal remains were kept at his residence from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM for the public to pay their last respects. A sea of mourners gathered for his final journey, which culminated with his cremation at the Beas cremation ground.
Among those present to pay tribute were Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, and several political, sports, and social leaders.
Thousands of people—fans, followers, and citizens—joined the funeral procession to say their final goodbye.An emotional CM Mann remembered Fauja Singh as a living inspiration:
“His life is proof that age is just a number. Fauja Singh ji not only made a mark in sports but also inspired generations with his discipline and awareness campaigns.”
Governor Kataria also paid tribute, recalling how Fauja Singh had joined him in an anti-drug awareness march, calling him a symbol of unyielding spirit.Fauja Singh's remarkable journey was cut short by a tragic road accident. He was out for a morning walk near his residence when he was hit by a Fortuner SUV.
The driver, identified as NRI Amritpal Singh Dhillon, fled the scene but was arrested within 30 hours. He has since been presented in court and sent to jail.
Fauja Singh began his running journey at the age of 90, astonishing the world by completing an international marathon at 100. Nicknamed the "Century Runner," he earned global acclaim for his stamina, spirit, and dedication. His story became a beacon of fitness and resilience, proving that willpower knows no age.
From sportspersons to political figures and everyday citizens, people from all walks of life joined the funeral procession. Many held back tears, others raised slogans in his honor—a hero not just remembered, but deeply cherished.
