Under Jeevan Jot 2.0, DCPU inspects to prevent child begging
Ferozepur, July 24, 2025: As part of the ongoing Project Jeevan Jyot 2.0, launched by the Punjab Government to safeguard children's rights, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Ferozepur, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma and District Program Officer Richika Nanda, conducted a joint checking operation in collaboration with the Ferozepur Cantonment Police.
The inspection covered key locations including the railway station, bus stand, Sheetla Mata Mandir, and Cantt Bazaar. During the operation, no children were found begging at these sites. The team included Child Protection Officer Seema Rani, Ashish Sharma, Amanjot, Gurmeet Singh, Gagandeep Singh, and police personnel Ramanpreet Singh and Harjeet Singh.
Besides, the team inspected Sher Shah Wali Chowk, where they interacted with elderly beggars who confirmed that no children were involved in begging activities in the area. This indicates a positive impact of the Punjab Government’s efforts to eliminate child begging.
District Child Protection Officer Baljinder Singh stated that any information related to the safety and well-being of children can be shared with their office or reported through the Child Helpline number 1098.
