Drug smuggler held in Ferozepur, over 15 Kg heroin seized
Ferozepur, July 25, 2025: The lax security arrangements at the Indo-Pak border were once again exposed when the Ferozepur police team, acting on a tip-off, arrested Ramesh Kumar (50), a resident of village Mohkam Khan Wala under Sadar Police Station Ghall Khurd, along with 15.007 kg heroin.
Ramesh Kumar, who also lives in Golden Enclave of Ferozepur city, used to arrange drug consignments from different districts and sell them in the Ferozepur area. Based on a confidential information, Inspector Gurpreet Singh of Ghall Khurd police station and his team arrested him at the grain market of village Bhamba Landa, while he was waiting for customers. The narcotics and the Swift car (HR-26-BP-8555) being used for drug smuggling were recovered from the accused in the presence of DSP Karan Sharma.
Police investigation revealed that smugglers from both sides of the border regularly send drugs either through drones or through packets dropped near the zero line at agreed times. This is a well-organized operation that is taking advantage of the vulnerable areas of the border.
DIG Harmanbir Singh Gill and Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, SSP said that Ramesh Kumar has a criminal history and is facing five separate cases of 2008, 2019, 2012, 2014 and 2022 registered under the Gambling Act, NDPS Act and Section 420 in different police stations of the district.
They said that the backward and forward links are being thoroughly investigated. Only one accused has been arrested and his accomplice is likely to be arrested soon.
Although authorities are vigorously campaigning against drug trafficking, this challenge is not slowing down due to new technologies and uncharted territories.
