Big Boost for Journalists: CM announces historic hike in pension amount

Patna (Bihar), July 26, 2025:In a major relief for journalists, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a historic increase in pension under the BiharPatrakar Samman Pension Yojana. As per the new declaration, the monthly pension amount for all eligible journalists has been raised from ₹6,000 to ₹15,000.
Making the announcement, CM Nitish Kumar said, "It gives me immense pleasure to share that under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana, all eligible journalists will now receive ₹15,000 per month instead of ₹6,000. This decision reflects our respect and gratitude for the contribution of journalists in upholding democracy."
In another key decision, the CM also declared an increase in the family pension for the spouses of deceased journalists under the same scheme. The amount has been increased from ₹3,000 to ₹10,000 per month.
Acknowledging the crucial role of journalists in society, Nitish Kumar said, "Journalists are the fourth pillar of democracy. Their service to the nation and society cannot be ignored. Our government will continue to introduce welfare schemes that ensure they can perform fearlessly and live a dignified life after retirement."
