Babushahi Bureau
Chandigarh, July 29, 2025 – Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, currently lodged in Nabha jail in connection with a disproportionate assets case, did not receive any relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court today.
During the hearing on his petition challenging the arrest, Majithia’s legal team requested additional time to amend the plea. Accepting the request, the court has adjourned the matter to August 26, 2025. This means Majithia will remain in judicial custody until the next hearing.
Majithia was arrested on June 25 by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau from his residence in Amritsar. The arrest followed investigations into alleged assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The government claims to have substantial evidence and has conducted raids across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
Majithia’s lawyers have dismissed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. In a related development, Majithia’s legal team has filed a petition in a Mohali court seeking live streaming of the proceedings, instead of in-camera hearings.
They argue that the case is of public interest, especially for Punjabis living abroad, and should be conducted with complete transparency.
