Landslide hits Mandi amid heavy rain; 2 trapped under debris, several vehicles swept away

Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), July 29, 2025: A major landslide struck the Jail Road area of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh on Monday morning, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall.
At least two people are reported trapped under the debris, while several others have been injured and multiple vehicles have been damaged or swept away. Rescue teams and district administration rushed to the site and are actively engaged in search and relief operations.
According to eyewitnesses, the hillside gave way after incessant rain, causing a massive flow of mud and rocks to collapse onto the road and nearby parked vehicles.
- Two individuals remain trapped, and efforts are underway to rescue them.
- Three to four people have sustained injuries and have been admitted to Mandi Hospital.
- More than five vehicles have been reported damaged, some of which were washed away with the debris.
Officials including the SDM of Mandi and disaster management teams are present at the location. The affected area has been sealed, and residents have been advised to remain alert.The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for more rainfall in the next 24 hours, raising concerns of additional landslides and flash floods.
Mandi Deputy Commissioner stated that the situation is being closely monitored and that relief efforts have been intensified. All possible assistance will be extended to the affected families.
