Chandigarh, July 29, 2025: School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, organized a solemn and inspiring program on July 29, 2025, to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event paid tribute to the extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifices made by Indian soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War.
The program began with the national anthem, setting a respectful and patriotic tone. In his opening address, Head of Department Prof. Yograj paid homage to the martyrs of Kargil, emphasizing that war is never a cause for celebration.
“No one understands the cost of conflict better than Punjabis,” he remarked with poignancy.

Senior Professor Uma Sethi, speaking on the occasion, noted that events like these not only awaken patriotic sentiments among students but also foster a deeper connection with the nation's history and cultural legacy.
Dr. Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu, Associate Professor in the department, highlighted the importance of organizing such programs in educational institutions.She stressed that these events help instill a sense of national consciousness and civic responsibility among young minds.
She added that the heroism displayed by Indian soldiers during the Kargil War continues to inspire us to remain steadfast in the face of adversity and to prioritize the nation’s interest above our own. Students participated with heartfelt enthusiasm, presenting patriotic songs and poems that reflected their deep love for the country.
Some students also delivered moving speeches recounting the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil conflict. Through these performances, they expressed profound respect and admiration for the soldiers and martyrs.
A BBC documentary based on the Kargil War was screened during the event, offering students a powerful visual insight into the sacrifices made on the front lines.The program concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
Organized by the School of Punjabi Studies, this heartfelt tribute to the heroes of Kargil served to reinforce values of patriotism, national pride, and selfless service among the student community.
