Ferozepur pays tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh on 86th Martyrdom Day
Ferozepur, July 31, 2025: On the occasion of the 86th martyrdom anniversary of India's revolutionary hero Shaheed Udham Singh, floral tributes were offered by various organisations and prominent social, religious, and community leaders in Ferozepur.
The ceremony was led by the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Committee, which paid homage to the martyr who avenged the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating Michael O’Dwyer in London on March 13, 1940. He was hanged at Pentonville Prison, London, on July 31, 1940.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Baljit Singh Kamboj said that Udham Singh's sacrifice remains a symbol of courage, determination, and patriotism, inspiring freedom lovers across the world.
Earlier in the day, citizens gathered at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk in Ferozepur at 11 a.m. and laid floral wreaths at his statue. Various speakers recalled his bravery and the importance of remembering such sacrifices, which paved the way for India’s freedom.
Kamboj further highlighted that across Punjab, rallies, plays, and speech competitions were organized to mark the day. He stated that this occasion once again reminded the nation that freedom was not easily won and came through the sacrifices of great martyrs like Udham Singh.
The event concluded with a collective resolve to carry forward the legacy of Shaheed Udham Singh and uphold the values he fought for.
