Raja Warring distributes relief in Ferozepur, demands a realistic package for flood-hit victims
Ferozepur, September 12, 2025: Punjab Congress President Raja Warring on Friday visited Ferozepur to meet flood-affected families and distribute relief material. During his visit, he strongly criticised the governments for their failure in disaster preparedness and transparent fund utilisation and demanded
Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to “play politics” over flood relief, warning that it would only result in the “victimisation” of Punjabis instead of helping them rebuild their lives.
Speaking to media persons, Warring alleged that successive governments had diverted disaster relief funds instead of maintaining a proper reserve for emergencies. He pointed out that over the years, nearly ₹13,000 crore had accumulated under the State Disaster Response Fund, of which 75% came from the Centre and 25% from Punjab. “This money should have been secured in bank accounts to generate interest and ensure immediate availability during calamities. Instead, it was misused,” he said.
Warring further stated that despite the Centre announcing ₹1,600 crore for Punjab, no actual funds had been received on the ground. The governments are misleading the public with tall claims, while people are left to fend for themselves,” he added.
He reiterated that a realistic package of ₹25,000 crore was urgently required to restore infrastructure, provide compensation to farmers, and rebuild lives in flood-ravaged districts.
Highlighting poor river management, he blamed the authorities for not lowering water levels in dams despite clear monsoon warnings, and for failing to clear riverbeds, leading to widespread flooding. He also raised concerns over unchecked mining and inadequate drainage systems around highways, which worsened the disaster’s impact.
“The truth is, Punjab has been saved not by governments, but by Punjabis themselves. Unless serious corrective measures are taken, such disasters will repeat every year,” Warring warned.
On this occasion, District President Kulbir Singh Zira, Vijay Kalra, President Aarthi Union, Amardeep Singh Ashu Bangar, Gurbhej Tibbi, Youth Congress Leader and Chairman, Verka Milk Plant, Ferozepur, Rajinder Singh, Sarpanch Sherkhan, and Balosam Thind were present.
