How does this ‘digital eclipse’ work?
- When users type “Solar Eclipse” or “सूर्य ग्रहण” into the search bar, an animated eclipse appears on their screen for a few moments.
- A black shadow passes across the sun, briefly dimming the screen, mimicking the real phenomenon.
- Google is known for such creative effects — from color bursts on Holi to falling hearts on Valentine’s Day.
When and where will the real eclipse happen?
- The partial solar eclipse will begin at 10:59 PM (IST) on September 21 and end at 3:23 AM on September 22, lasting about 4 hours and 24 minutes.
- It will not be visible in India, and therefore no related astrological rituals apply here.
- The eclipse will be visible mainly in the Southern Hemisphere, including New Zealand, Australia, Antarctica, and parts of the Pacific Ocean.
While the actual eclipse may not be visible in India, Google’s creative animation has given people around the world a fun way to experience this celestial event in advance.
