Babushahi Bureau
SAS Nagar (Punjab), September 20, 2025: The Punjab Excise Department has launched a vigorous awareness campaign urging residents to stay away from spurious liquor, highlighting its severe health risks.
Acting on the directions of State Excise Commissioner Jatinder Jorwal, Excise Inspector Vikas Bhateja kicked off the campaign in village Palheri, Kharar, aiming to sensitize villagers about the dangers of illicit liquor and the department’s zero-tolerance policy.
Under the supervision of Patiala Zone Deputy Commissioner (Excise) Tarsem Chand and Rupnagar Range Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Ashok Chalhotra, special teams have been set up to regularly monitor villages. Residents were encouraged to immediately report any instances of spurious liquor sales to ensure swift action.
Officials warned that such liquor, often manufactured without quality checks, contains toxic chemicals that can cause severe damage to the liver, kidneys, and heart. Villagers also took a pledge to neither consume nor allow the consumption of spurious liquor in their community.
