New Delhi, October 14, 2025: BJP National Spokesman RP has urged Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to release Sikh prisoner Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.
In a tweet he said, “Met Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta ji today, to personally appeal for the compassionate release of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar.
My request is rooted purely in humanitarian grounds. Bhullar has spent 28 years in prison. For over 14 years, he has been undergoing treatment for schizophrenia. The Supreme Court itself commuted his death sentence to life in 2014, acknowledging the inordinate delays and his precarious health.
Despite a 2019 directive from the Central Government that concurred with his remission, he remains incarcerated. The Delhi Sentence Review Board has repeatedly denied his release, but circumstances demand a reconsideration on the basis of compassion and human dignity.
This is not about the crime, for which he has served a sentence, but about mercy and a chance for a mentally ailing man. I have urged the Chief Minister to intervene and grant this long-overdue relief purely on humanitarian ground.”
