Mansa (Punjab), October 24, 2025: A shocking and tragic case from Mansa district, Punjab has revealed the devastating impact of synthetic drug (‘chitta’) addiction on families. A couple, Gurman Kaur and Sandeep Singh, reportedly sold their six-month-old baby for ₹1.80 lakh to satisfy their drug cravings and financial needs.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, not only due to the act itself but also because Gurman Kaur was once a state-level athlete, highlighting how addiction can affect even accomplished individuals.
Couple’s Addiction Led to Tragic Decision
Sources revealed that Gurman and Sandeep met on Instagram before marrying. Over time, both developed a severe addiction to ‘chitta’, which eventually led them to make the horrifying decision to sell their infant.
Authorities reported that the transaction was disguised as a legal adoption deed, but investigations revealed that the deal involved a monetary exchange, which is illegal.
"No adoption deed can legally include payment in exchange for a child. This case is being thoroughly investigated," said a spokesperson from Bareta Police.
