DC urges farmers to end stubble burning, Promotes scientific residue management
Ferozepur, November 1, 2025: The collective efforts are essential to ensure a clean and safe environment for future generations. Deputy Commissioner Deep Shikha Sharma appealed to farmers to cooperate with the administration in protecting the environment by avoiding stubble burning. S
Issuing directions to the officials, the DC instructed them to visit villages along with their staff to counsel farmers against burning stubble and motivate them to adopt alternative methods of disposal.
Acting on these directions, SDM Ferozepur Gurdev Singh Dhamm visited villages Rajo Ke Gatti, Jallo Ke, and Gatti Rahime Ke, where he and his team extinguished stubble fires and sensitized farmers about the environmental and health hazards caused by such practices. Similarly, officials Divanshu Ahuja and Sunil Kumar (ATM Nodal Officer) promptly reached village Sher Khan, where stubble burning was noticed near a poultry farm and canal bank, and managed to douse the fire.
Under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner, the Agriculture Department is conducting an intensive awareness campaign across villages to discourage stubble burning. Awareness drives were held in Arifke circle’s villages — Nizamwala, Baghewala, Sultanwala, and Usmanwala — where farmers pledged to adopt in-situ management of paddy residue instead of setting it on fire. Farmers also shared issues faced in managing straw, which were discussed for suitable solutions.
In village Dulle Ke Nathu Wala, farmer Laddu Singh, with the department’s assistance, carried out in-situ management using a Super Seeder machine over four acres before sowing wheat. Likewise, in village Fatehgarh Gehri, farmer Balram Singh utilized a subsidized mulcher and Super Seeder under in-situ residue management. In village Naseera Khilchia, farmers sowed wheat using a subsidized Zero Drill and baled the remaining straw.
DC added that farmers across villages are being regularly educated to manage paddy residue scientifically and responsibly. However, she warned that strict legal action would be taken against those still indulging in stubble burning despite repeated appeals.
