Punjab RTI Commission slams PCS officer for non-compliance, increases penalty

Chandigarh, December 9, 2025: The Punjab State Information Commission has expressed strong displeasure over the conduct of a PCS officer from the state for failing to comply with its orders.
In case 5555/2023, listed before State Information Commissioner Pooja Gupta, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Amritsar was summoned multiple times but did not appear even once. Despite the issuance of bailable warrants, the officer continued to ignore the Commission’s directions.
As a result, Commissioner Gupta increased the penalty previously imposed on the officer from ₹10,000 to ₹25,000.
The Commission also expressed disappointment over the current RTO, Khushdil Singh Sandhu, PCS, citing irresponsible behavior and failure to comply with the Commission’s orders.
The Principal Secretary, Transport, has been informed of the officer’s non-compliance and the casual attitude of the RTI Wing of the Transport Department.
