Chandigarh, January 13, 2026:The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday took a strict stand on the security of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is lodged in Nabha Jail, making it clear that any lapse in his safety will invite direct responsibility of the ADGP (Jails) and the Superintendent of Nabha Jail.
During the hearing, the High Court fixed clear accountability on the jail authorities and directed the Punjab government to ensure Majithia’s safety at all costs. The court categorically stated that if any untoward incident or misbehaviour occurs inside the jail, the ADGP (Jails) and the Jail Superintendent would be held personally responsible.
The stern directions come in the backdrop of a recent letter issued by the Intelligence Wing, which reportedly flagged a threat to Majithia’s life inside the jail premises. Following the intelligence input, demands were raised for enhanced security arrangements for the Akali leader.
Reprimanding the government over the issue, the High Court observed that no laxity in security arrangements would be tolerated and emphasized the need for strict compliance with its directions.
Bikram Singh Majithia is currently under house arrest within Nabha Jail. The court’s order has significantly increased the responsibility of the jail administration to ensure his safety and prevent any security breach.
