Atishi Case: Delhi Speaker grants limited extension to Punjab DGP, rejects 10-day plea

Chandigarh, January 13, 2026:The Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly has granted three days’ time to the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) and other senior police officers to submit their reply in connection with the Atishi video case, extending the deadline till January 15.
Earlier, the Punjab DGP, Special DGP (Cyber Crime), and the Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, had sought 10 days’ time to respond to the notice. However, the Speaker allowed only a limited extension, declining to grant the full period requested by the officers. The Speaker had initially sought a response within 48 hours.
The case relates to the registration of an FIR in Jalandhar over a video involving Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi, which has sparked political and legal debate.
