Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab), April 15, 2026: At least eight pilgrims lost their lives and around 25 others were injured after a mini-bus overturned in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district on Tuesday night.
The accident occurred around 10:30 pm on the Chunni-Morinda road in the Bassi Pathana area as the passengers were returning from Anandpur Sahib after attending the Baisakhi fair.
According to police, the bus, carrying 30–35 passengers, reportedly went out of control, struck an electric pole, and overturned. Initial accounts from survivors suggest a possible axle failure may have led to the crash, though the exact cause is still under investigation.
Six people died at the scene, while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment. The injured were taken to government hospitals in Fatehgarh Sahib, with several critical cases referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh.
