Amritsar (Punjab), May 24, 2026: Two women devotees were killed and several others injured after iron linter plates from an under-construction langar hall collapsed at historical Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj on Sunday.
According to information provided by the gurdwara management, a large number of devotees had gathered at the shrine for prayers and religious recitation when the incident occurred. Construction work on the langar hall was underway at the time.
Officials said iron plates attached to the under-construction linter suddenly fell on women sitting beneath the structure, creating panic in the gurdwara premises.
Two women died in the incident, while at least seven others sustained injuries. The injured were immediately rushed to Sri Guru Ram Das Hospital for treatment.
Two critically injured women were later referred to Med Card Hospital, where one of them is stated to be in serious condition.
Some eyewitnesses claimed that strong winds had been blowing since morning and suspected the weather conditions may have contributed to the collapse. However, the exact cause of the incident is yet to be officially confirmed.
Authorities and gurdwara management have initiated an investigation into the tragedy.
