Punjab Govt assures uninterrupted 8-hour power supply for farmers during paddy season

Chandigarh, May 24, 2026: Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment towards the farming community, Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Saturday announced that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has completed all preparations to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the upcoming paddy transplantation season.
The minister said the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited will provide more than eight hours of daily power supply to every agriculture pump (AP) motor connection across the state in accordance with the transplantation schedule issued by the Bhagwant Mann-led government.
According to the schedule, paddy transplantation will begin from June 1 in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Hoshiarpur districts. The second phase from June 5 will cover Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Fazilka, while the final phase from June 9 will include Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar and SBS Nagar.
Sond stated that agriculture remains a top priority for the Bhagwant Mann government and all necessary arrangements have been made to facilitate farmers during the crucial paddy season.
He said dedicated PSPCL teams and technical staff have been deployed across Punjab for round-the-clock monitoring of the power distribution network. Field officers have also been directed to ensure immediate resolution of faults, transformer issues and other technical disruptions.
The minister further informed that control rooms and complaint handling systems have been strengthened to respond quickly to farmers’ grievances during the transplantation period.
He added that maintenance work of transformers, transmission lines and other electricity infrastructure has already been completed in advance to avoid disruptions during peak demand.
Appealing to farmers to use electricity responsibly and follow the official schedule, Sond assured that the Punjab Government would leave no stone unturned in safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring a smooth paddy transplantation season across the state.
