Naya Gaon (Mohali), May 24, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday announced that a future SAD government would spend ₹500 crore on the integrated development of Naya Gaon and transform it into a modern extension of New Chandigarh.
Addressing a public meeting during the municipal election campaign, Badal said Naya Gaon would be made “part and parcel of New Chandigarh in every aspect” with upgraded civic infrastructure and modern facilities.
He said all illegal colonies in the area would be regularised and major improvements would be undertaken in roads, sewerage systems and street lighting facilities.
Accusing the previous Congress government and the present AAP government of neglecting the area, the SAD president said residents of Naya Gaon had been deprived of even basic civic amenities for years.
Badal said he shared a personal connection with Naya Gaon and recalled that former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had also spent considerable time in the area.
He assured residents that if the SAD formed the government in Punjab, visible development work would begin immediately and people’s grievances would be addressed on priority.
The SAD chief also praised party leader Ravinder Singh Khera for his work in the area and appealed to voters to strengthen the party in the municipal elections.
Senior party leader Gurdhyan Singh and SGPC member Ajmer Singh Khera were also present during the event.
