IAF Helicopters draw water from Sukhna lake to battle massive Kasauli forest fire

Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: Indian Air Force helicopters were pressed into action to combat a massive forest fire near Kasauli, using water lifted from Sukhna Lake for aerial firefighting operations.
Officials said the helicopters repeatedly collected water from Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh and dropped it over fire-hit forest areas as flames continued to spread across the hills of Himachal Pradesh.
The fire reportedly intensified due to dry weather conditions and strong winds, making it difficult for ground teams to contain the blaze. Authorities then sought aerial assistance to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby areas.
Emergency teams and forest officials remained deployed at the site while the situation continued to be monitored closely.
