Punjab MC Polls: AAP crosses 630 seats, Opposition trailing (1;50 pm)

Chandigarh, May 29, 2026: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party continued its dominant performance in the Punjab local body elections, crossing the 630-seat mark in results declared till 1:30 PM on Friday.
According to the latest figures, out of the state’s total 1,977 wards, the Aam Aadmi Party has secured victory in 630 seats, establishing a massive lead over rival parties.
Celebrations erupted at party offices and among workers across Punjab, with supporters distributing sweets and raising slogans to mark the party’s strong showing in the civic polls.
The Indian National Congress was in second place with 215 seats, while the Shiromani Akali Dal held third position after winning 175 seats in closely contested races.
The Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a major setback in the elections and was limited to just 52 seats so far.
Meanwhile, independent candidates also delivered an impressive performance, upsetting the calculations of major political parties in several wards across the state.
