CGC University Mohali marks World Bicycle Day 2026 with mega cycling rally, draws over 5,000 participants

Mohali (Punjab), June 9, 2026: CGC University Mohali, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), celebrated World Bicycle Day 2026 with great enthusiasm under the Fit India Movement, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The highlight of the event was a grand cycling rally that witnessed the participation of more than 5,000 cyclists, including university students, faculty members, staff, sports enthusiasts and local residents. The rally aimed to promote physical fitness, healthy living, environmental sustainability and community bonding through cycling.
The rally was formally flagged off by Rajinder Singh, senior Olympic gold medallist, Arjuna Award recipient (1997), Dronacharya Awardee (2003), former national coach of the Indian men's hockey team and current Technical Lead/Director at Roundglass Sports Hockey. His presence inspired participants and added to the excitement of the occasion.
Regional Director of the Sports Authority of India, Shailendra Kumar, attended the event as the Guest of Honour. He commended CGC University Mohali for its efforts in encouraging fitness, sports participation and social engagement among young people.
Addressing the gathering, dignitaries highlighted the importance of cycling as an affordable and effective means of maintaining physical health while also contributing to a cleaner and greener environment. They urged citizens to embrace active lifestyles and work collectively towards building a healthier society.
Participants were also encouraged to join the Namo Fit India Cycling Club, an initiative aimed at creating a nationwide network of cycling enthusiasts who can help promote a culture of fitness and wellness across the country.
